Francesco Galindo, and Don Salvio Pacheco
Portraits, Ceramic, Sculpture
Portraits
Medium: Clay
Ruth Galindo was the last living descendant of the Galindo's and Pacheco who were the original Spanish land grant owners in ContraCosta County California. She wanted to finance a bronze monument in Todos Santos Park in Concord, dedicated to city founders Francesco Galindo and Don Salvio Pacheco. We met through a mutual friend concerning the commission. She provided pictures of the men and I agreed to create clay portraits for approval before working on the life-sized bronze figures.
Her health was deteriorating when I visited her in a rest home in Concord to show her the finished clay busts. She was visibly pleased and wept when she saw the men who had been so influential in her life. Her health continued to deteriorate and the project was stalled. She passed away before the work could be realized. The commission was not completed in bronze.
The stoneware clay models are available. They are the only sculpture portraits of these early pioneers and are part of Contra Costa county California history. A reasonable offer would be considered.
