Francesco Galindo, and Don Salvio Pacheco
Ruth Galindo was the last living relative of the Galindo's and Pacheco's who were Spanish land grant owners in Contra Costa County. she was considering financing a bronze monument in todos Santos Park dedicated to Francesco Galindo and Don Salvio Pacheco. I met her through a mutual friend and explained I was interested in the commission. We talked, and she provided pictures of the men. I agreed to create clay portraits to demonstrate my ability. It was bad timing because shortly afterward her health began to deteriorate, I think it was 1997 or 98. I visited her in a rest in Concord to show the finished clay busts. She was pleased and wept for joy. Soon after her health began to deteriorate rapidly and passed away. The commission was not completed in bronze.
The original life sized stoneware clay models are for sale. They are the only artistic portraits in existence of these pioneers.. I would consider a reasonable offer. They are part of Contra Costa county California history and should reside in the San Fransico Bay area.
