Ship Brooklyn Memorial Bronze Plaque
Relief Sculpture
Awards, Gravemarkers, Plaques
Medium: Bronze
This solid bronze memorial plaque was commissioned by the descendants of the ship Brooklyn. I designed it to attach to the grave markers of those pioneers who traveled with Sam Brannan on the ship Brooklyn. They took a sea route from New York around the southern tip of South America to San Francisco in 1848. it was a long and treacherous voyage. Brigham Young considered it might be an alternative route to the long desert and mountains route that he and the main body of the Saints took going to the Salt Lake Valley when they were driven from Nauvoo.
There are only six of these beautiful solid bronze emblems left and there will not be others cast. If you are or know someone who is a Ship Brooklyn descendant and wants a memory of the ship Brooklyn pioneers, it would be a treasured gift..
